The land situated between the Gascoigne and Miners pubs had been overgrown and neglected for years. Having gained permission and some financial help from Aire Valley Homes who own the land we set to work to create a relaxing garden.
Help came from all over, a local resident levelled the site with his JCB, Geoff Saville designed the garden and the Probation service laid the paths and repaired the boundary wall. Then visitors to The Growing Zone put together our bird boxes.
Then in April we started to plant and commissioned a seat for the site. Over the next few months as the plants grew so did the positive comments we received.
As part of Garforth in Bloom's Official Opening of the Diamond Jubilee Garden on Aberford Road we will be burying a small time capsule containing as many items as possible to reflect life in Garforth in 2012.
